Ensilica, a Queen’s Award winning provider of custom ASIC design and supply services, has opened a new design facility in Sheffield.

The new design centre is being established around a team of six experienced engineers with backgrounds that cover analogue, RF and digital design. EnSilica is also announcing a recruitment drive to bring in Semiconductor design engineers at both graduate and more-senior levels.

The new site adds to EnSilica’s existing headquarters and design facility near Oxford, and its design centres in Wokingham (Berkshire) and Cambridge. There is also a specialist centre for functional verification and physical design capabilities based in Bangalore, India.

The Sheffield design centre will be headed by John Matthews, who said, “This is a great region and a great city that we feel will help us attract the best talent. Not only do we have a team in place that will foster a strong environment for growth and learning, with the Peaks and Moors on its doorstep, Sheffield gives staff here a great work life balance.”

EnSilica CEO, Ian Lankshear added, “We chose Sheffield as it has a great pedigree for innovation, with technology companies such as Arm already established in the area, and with its links to several first-class universities on the doorstep.”
