Xilinx and Fujitsu join forces to facilitate 5G deployment in the U.S.

Beijing, China, February 5, 2021 – Xilinx, Inc. (NASDAQ: XLNX), a global leader in adaptive computing, today announced that it is working on a new O-RAN 5G radio unit for Fujitsu Limited ( O-RU) provides leading UltraScale+ technology. Fujitsu O-RUs powered by Xilinx technology will be deployed in the first new O-RAN compliant 5G network in the United States. At the same time, Fujitsu is evaluating Xilinx RFSoC technology to further reduce cost and power consumption for subsequent deployment of more base stations.

Fujitsu O-RUs are suitable for various frequency bands and multi-band applications in 5G O-RAN networks. The Xilinx UltraScale+ devices used in Fujitsu O-RUs offer the best balance of cost-effectiveness with adaptability and scalability for evolving 5G O-RAN network requirements. In addition, Xilinx will continue to work with other O-RAN ecosystem partners to ensure ongoing validation of the hardware and software required for world-class 5G networks.

Liam Madden, executive vice president and general manager of the Wired and Wireless Business Unit at Xilinx, said: “We are proud to be working with Fujitsu on its multi-generation 5G radio units using our industry-leading UltraScale+ solution. These units will be used in major new builds. It is widely used in 5G networks. As the 5G market needs continue to evolve, Fujitsu also recognizes the importance of integrating Xilinx’s flexible RFSoCs in addressing the evolution of next-generation radio deployment standards.”

Masaki Taniguchi, Senior Vice President and Head of the Mobile Systems Business Unit at Fujitsu, said: “The Fujitsu design team worked closely with Xilinx on the O-RAN RF unit to achieve greater flexibility and lower cost, while also enabling 5G The network brings greater innovation and more new capabilities. The Xilinx UltraScale+ solution portfolio, combined with Fujitsu’s leading radio platform, provides a solid foundation to fully leverage the benefits of O-RAN that will be deployed in 5G Play a central role. We look forward to continuing our work with Xilinx to integrate its family of RFSoCs into our next-generation solutions.”

The first batch of new 5G O-RAN systems will be deployed this year.
